Parathas make terrific toddler food since they can usually be enjoyed without parental supervision. Most babies will often hold onto a piece and nibble away while they're busy doing their own thing. They will enjoy this at meal times too with dal and raita.
Ingredients
  • For The Filling
  • ⅛ cup green peas , boiled and mashed
  • ¼ cup grated carrot
  • ¼ cup grated paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 2 tbsp grated beetroot
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
  • salt and to taste
  • For The Dough
  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
  • 1 tbsp wheat bran
  • ½ tsp oil
  • salt to taste
  • Other Ingredients
  • 4 tsp ghee for cooking
Instructions
  1. For the filling
  2. Combine all the ingredients and mix well.
  3. Divide into 4 equal portions and keep aside.
  4. For the dough
  5. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough water.
  6. Divide into 4 equal portions and keep aside.
  7. How to proceed
  8. Roll out one portion of the dough into a 75 mm. (3") diameter circle.
  9. Place a portion of the filling mixture and fold the edges of the dough over the filling.
  10. Pinch the edges together to seal the filling in.
  11. Flatten the dough and roll out again into a 100 mm. (4") diameter circle.
  12. Cook on a tava (griddle) over a medium flame till it is golden brown in colour on both sides, using a little ghee.
  13. Repeat for the remaining dough and filling. Serve lukewarm with curds or raita.
