A tea time snack.
  • 6 large raw bananas
  • 1½ cups boiled green peas
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 2 small sticks cinnamon (dalchini)
  • 2 cloves (laung / lavang)
  • 1 tsp green chilli paste
  • 2 tbsp grated processed cheese
  • salt to taste
  • broken vermicelli (seviyan) or bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • oil for frying
  • For the dipping batter
  • ¾ cup water
  • ¾ cup plain flour (maida)
  1. Boil the bananas with the skin until soft. Remove the skin and mash well. Add the lemon juice, cornflour and salt.
  2. For the stuffing:
  3. Heat the ghee in a frying pan. Fry the cumin seeds for a minute. Add the cinnamon and cloves. Add the peas, green chilli paste, salt and grated cheese. If you like, and add a little black salt.
  4. Cool the mixture until dry.
  5. How to proceed:
  6. Take a little banana dough, pat it lightly. Add the stuffing and seal the sides.
  7. Repeat with the remaining banana dough and stuffing.
  8. Mix the plain flour in the water and drop the stuffed bananas in it.
  9. Remove and roll in the vermicilli and deep fry until golden.
  10. Serve hot.
